Kristen Shealy, EdM, CAS, LPC

Kristen Shealy, EdM, CAS, LPC, is a bilingual (Spanish and English) therapist who works with children and adults experiencing issues related to trauma exposure, depression, anxiety, and adjustment challenges. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She completed her Masters of Education (Ed.M.) in Risk and Prevention, and Certificate of Advanced Study in Counseling (C.A.S.) at Harvard University.

Kristen has experience working with youth and families in the United States (public schools, residential treatment facilities, hospitals, and community-based outreach settings) and internationally. In graduate school Kristen developed psychosocial programs for former street children in Bolivia, and spent her summers implementing the programs in adolescent group homes in La Paz. After moving to Charleston in 2009, she began working with adults and children at the National Crime Victims Research & Treatment Center at MUSC, Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center, and People Against Rape (PAR). Kristen has served as adjunct faculty in the Department of Psychology at the College of Charleston, and has published in peer-reviewed journals on trauma-related topics.

Kristen is a nationally certified therapist in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) for youth and families, and provides other evidence-supported treatments including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression and anxiety, Prolonged Exposure for PTSD (PE)Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)Risk Reduction through Family Therapy (RRFT)Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)Behavioral Activation for depression, and Traumatic Grief Therapy.
